The Board adopted the following key strategic pillars to frame goals and objectives over the next 3-5 years:
Service to the athletes and members of OGA is a very high priority to the OGA Board of Directors and staff. Athletes are the students and participants actively enrolled in OGA classes and programs. Members are defined as parents or legal guardians of athletes or participants enrolled. Each year the board will set goals and objectives under the member services strategy to meet the needs of our athletes and membership. OGA staff and executive director make recommendations to the Board regarding which programs and services offer the most value to our athletes and membership.
Quality and safety in gymnastics, cheerleading, pre-school and school age recreational programs, day camps, and other special programs is considered a matter of utmost importance to the OGA Board of Directors. There are many issues to attend to assure a safe environment that can offer quality gymnastics and other activities to students of all ages and abilities. Quality and Safety programs must be on-going and measurable to monitor their effectiveness. The OGA Board has determined that quality is not measured by "championships" in the sport of gymnastics or any other competitive program offered. Quality at OGA is defined by creating an environment that allows each individual athlete to achieve his/her highest potential within their sport while instilling and developing life-long skills that contribute to health, wellness, and character.
OGA is an organization that provides coaching & instructional services & programs to athletes and members in a gymnastics environment. As such, the people that work for and with OGA are our most important resource. To that end, the OGA Board is committed to having human resource policies that support the organization's goals while allowing development of managers, coaches, instructors, and other staff.
Like any other business, OGA needs to promote and maintain financially viable programs that support the organizations mission through the strong, financial health of the organization. In addition, OGA must maintain operating reserves and sufficient capital to support the growth of the organization while staying true to the organizations mission of providing benefit to OGA athletes and community we serve. As a non-profit organization, OGA strives to keep fees as low as possible while at the same time providing access to OGA for youth who would have no other means to participate in the sport of gymnastics without the philanthropic works of OGA athletes and members. We will use sound business practices to assure the future of the organization. Individual and community works through OGA that are consistent with the non-profit status of the organization and are a priority for the Board.
OGA is part of our community in SW Portland, Beaverton, and Hillsboro. Being part of our community means our athletes, members, coaches, and instructors give back to the community in order to help those with special needs - be those needs financial, mental or physical. Each individual athlete or member is called upon to give to our community through their sport, their commitment to caring for others through volunteerism, financial support, and/or the Josephson Institue's "Character Counts" program. In addition, OGA as an organization gives back to the community by providing a unique and special place for those in need to experience physical education through the sport of gymnastics. OGA offers special needs classes, programs and/or scholarships to those in need in order that these classes reach their fullest potential by learning, competing, and enjoying the sport of gymnastics.
